Spores (spore-forming bacteria)

Found in bacteria such as Bacillus cereus and Bacillus subtilis, this cell structure is extremely resistant to dryness, high temperatures, and chemicals.

Bacteria with the ability to form spores are able to survive even under environmental conditions that would otherwise kill common bacteria. In addition, spore-forming bacteria cannot be killed through boiling at 100°C or chlorination.

Effective disinfection methods include treating with weakly acidic hypochlorite water and ultraviolet rays.
