Sodium hypochlorite

A disinfectant made from the reaction between chlorine gas and sodium hydroxide. The disinfection method using this agent is generally called chlorine disinfection.

Sodium hypochlorite is commonly used to ensure the safety of water such as for tap water, swimming pools, baths, and industrial water.

Use of sodium hypochlorite is common because it is inexpensive and effective against a wide variety of bacteria, but ultraviolet rays and increased temperatures can cause the available chlorine to break down, resulting in the generation of bubbles and making it possible for gas lock to occur, thereby opening the door to pump discharge problems.
