On a painting line for small parts, a pump is used to supply paint to the spray gun.
Conventionally, an air-driven diaphragm pump was used, which posed the following problems.

• If the pressure inside a pipe increases due to factors such as nozzle clogging and changes in the paint viscosity, the pump discharge volume decreases. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the pressure by operating a valve such as a back pressure valve, pressure reducing valve, or air supply valve.
• We want to manage/control the actual flow rate by measuring it, but we cannot measure the flow rate accurately with a flow meter because there is pulsation.

We selected a Smoothflow Pump that matches the usage conditions and loaned a demo machine to the customer so they could evaluate it on-site.
As listed below, the effect of this pump exceeded the customer’s expectations, so they decided to switch to a Smoothflow Pump.

• Even if the pressure on the discharge side is changed, there is hardly any effect on the discharge volume. This reduced the time and effort spent on pressure adjustment and stabilized the spray amount.
• Because there is no pulsation, it is now possible to measure and perform control with a flow meter.
