Customer's Needs and Problems

A spray dryer is used in the fine ceramics granulating process.
A hose pump was used to transfer liquid to the spray dryer, which posed the following problems.

  • An air chamber was attached to the piping, but could not completely eliminate pulsation, resulting in an unstable amount of liquid transferred and a broad particle size distribution.
  • The raw liquid was retained in the air chamber, resulting in uneven concentration and a negative effect on the particle size distribution.
  • Because the particle size distribution was broad, a large number of particles were removed during the classification process, which led to a poor yield.

TACMINA's Solutions

The pump was replaced with a Smoothflow Pump.

  • This eliminated pulsation, which stabilized the amount of supplied raw liquid.
  • An air chamber is no longer required, which has eliminated the concerns regarding uneven concentration due to retention of the raw liquid.
  • As a result of the above points, it was possible to obtain sharp particle size distribution.
  • The time and effort required for maintenance, such as replenishing the air in the air chamber, have been reduced.
