The rainwater that falls within the site of a steelworks is strongly alkaline. This rainwater must be neutralized to reuse it within the steelworks.
Because the site is large, the amount of rainwater may exceed 500 t/h.
We contacted multiple manufacturers, but none of them were able to solve the following problems.

  • We want to reduce the installation area of the device as much as possible. To use pH neutralization with a tank requires a large tank with a size of 100 t or more, which greatly increases the installation area.
  • The treated volume and the pH fluctuate greatly depending on the weather, so it is necessary to support a wide control range.

TACMINA's Solutions

We suggested that the customer use a pH neutralizing device with a method that performs continuous processing within the pipes (inline) without requiring the installation of a neutralization tank, and they agreed to this proposal.

  • The entirety of the pH neutralization process is carried out inline, making this treatment possible with a short retention time.
  • Fluctuations in the treated volume and pH are supported through the use of a Smoothflow Pump, which is capable of a wide range of control at 1:100.
  • It is now possible to quickly treat rainwater with an amount of 500 t/h or more in a small space.
